Education

I graduated from Oak Ridge High School in Conroe ISD in 2006.  I completed my student teaching in 2nd and 4th grade at Sally K. Ride Elementary in The Woodlands, and then graduated summa cum laude from the University of Houston (GO COOGS!) with a bachelor's of science in interdisciplinary studies.  I am certified to teach pre-K through sixth grade, English as a second language, and gifted and talented.

Personal Info

I was born not too far from Tomball in the Spring/Woodlands area, and I have lived in the North Houston area my whole life.  I have been married to my wonderful husband, Russel, for almost eight years. He served 8 years in the Army, and finished his contract last June. This December, he will finally finish his computer science degree at the University of Houston. We also have an adorable one year old son, William.  He is an amazing little boy, and I'm sure I'll talk about him every day!  We also have two sweet, patient cats, Neko and Louis. When I am not teaching, I enjoy drawing, riding my bicycle, playing chess, and playing and listening to music.

Mission for the Class

I am so excited to start a new year with you here at Willow Creek!  I taught 4th grade for 3 years at WCES, and this is my second year in 3rd.  I know we're going to have a great 3rd grade year! It is my goal for you to leave this year knowing more than you know today, loving learning more, and feeling completely ready for your next adventure in 4th grade.

Week of 3/27

Exciting and stressful events are going on for me this week - we are closing on both our old and new house, and will be moving!  Unfortunately that means I will be out quite a bit this week.  I have great substitutes lined up, though, and I have only review lessons planned (no new content), so it should all go smoothly.  If you notice that your child is not understanding a part of the homework this week, please let me know through e-mail so I can let the substitute know to pull your child and work with them on it during class.

Our field trip to TGR Exotics is this week.  I have every single permission slip returned, so we are all good to go!  Please remember to send your child with a sack lunch on Thursday and plenty of water.  You may want to apply sunscreen before they come to school.  I've never been there, so I'm not sure how shady or sunny it is.  Please let me know if you have any questions about the field trip!

Here is what we have going on this week:

Mon (3/27)
- math homework comes home (due Wednesday)

Tue (3/28)
- 4th grade takes STAAR Writing test (no lunch visitors today)

Wed (3/29)
- report cards come home
- math homework due
- area/perimeter quiz (daily grade)

Thu (3/30)
- field trip to TGR Exotics (Geiser, Hampton, Carnifax, and Herriman)

Elapsed Time Practice

In lieu of sending home homework for elapsed time practice, here are a few websites they can use to practice.  They will not be assessed on an elapsed time more than an hour this year.

https://www.thatquiz.org/tq-g/math/time/ (change it to "time passed")

http://mrnussbaum.com/clockworks/ (challenge level has elapsed time problems)

We will have a daily grade quiz on elapsed time on Friday.  Please encourage your child to ask for help if they need it during the quiz!  I know this is a new skill and the kids still need some support with it, so I will definitely help them out if they get stuck!
