AR 1st Nine Week Goals and Library Books

Dear Parents,

In your child’s planner is a label that shows their reading range and their individual AR (Accelerated Reader) points goal. Your child needs to work towards earning AR points after they have read an AR chapter book. Their reading ranges were calculated through a reading inventory test. Your child will attend a reward celebration by completing their AR goal by the due date of October 13, 2017. I have adjusted their AR goals based on the remaining 4 weeks left in this first nine weeks period. If you have any questions, please feel free to call or email me.

Library books need to come to school every day! Your child should be reading at least 20 minutes a night at home. Please make sure their library books come back to school because they read them during independent reading time. Also, our library day is every Wednesday. Make sure both books come back to school, so that your child is able to either recheck their books or turn them in to select new books.

Scrapbooking Supplies for Writing and Math Notebooks

Dear Parents,

Just a reminder to send supplies to school tomorrow so that your child can decorate their writing and math notebooks.  Supplies may include precut photographs, magazine pictures of his/her favorite things, flat stickers (no 3D), and scrapbooking decorations. The purpose is to create notebooks that reflect each child’s unique personality. We are so excited about the notebooks, and the students will be more motivated to participate with these interactive notebooks if they have put a personal touch on them.

Thanks for your help and support,

Mrs. Carnifax and Mrs. Herriman

STAAR Tests on Monday and Tuesday

Dear Parents,
The STAAR Math test in on Monday, 5/8 and the STAAR Reading test is on Tuesday, 5/9. Parents are not allowed to eat lunch in the cafeteria with their child on either Monday or Tuesday. Thank you so very much for sending in the STAAR encouragement letters. We had both smiles and tears! The kids loved receiving notes from you. There is no spelling test, reading log, or reading passage homework next week. We did send home a fun homework letter with the kids telling them to relax and have fun. The kids have worked hard all year long and they are ready to show what they know! Thank you again for all your help and support!
