Re-Energize Your Parenting Power

When:  Saturday, April 21st

Time:   9:00 am -12:00 pm

Who should attend:  Any adult interested in learning additional ideas to help with parenting challenges.  (Unfortunately, child care will not be available for this event.)



Participants will have the opportunity to attend three 45 min. presentations of their choice from the following speakers…


Social Media and Video Game Addiction

Jasper Gates, MA, LPC-I

Gamers are a growing population and video game culture remains unfamiliar, but this session will aid parents in gaining awareness and knowledge about gamers and video game culture. Mr. Gates will discuss elements of gaming culture including a brief history, population characteristics, terminology, and healthy and unhealthy gaming. 

Put the Fun Back into Parenting – the Love and Logic ® way

Kate Turner MA, CSC, LPC

We are excited to welcome Kate Turner back to TISD for more fun and information on Parenting the Love and Logic Way.  Join Kate Turner for 45 minutes of laughter, learning, and empathy – as she shares some tips that really work.          (She’s used these techniques in her own “lab”…and survived with a smile on her face)

Suffering in Silence – When Kids Won’t Tell You They are Hurting

Hannah Hartnett, TISD LSSP Intern 

Join Hannah as she explores the signs to look for when kids are hurting and don’t know how to tell you. Topics such as self-injury, depression, and anxiety will be discussed as well as events surrounding them.  Parents will hear about how they can support their child at home and in school when such difficulties arise.

 Digital Citizenship - David Becker, TISD Instructional Technology Specialist

Technology touches every part of our lives.  Come learn about terms of service on websites and apps, digital footprint, and digital citizenship from one of TISD’s certified Google Education Trainers and Instructional Technology Specialist.

Parents and Teachers as Allies  - NAMI Greater Houston

Parents and Teachers as Allies (PTAA) is a program that helps identify the early warning signs of early-onset mental or behavioral health conditions in children and adolescents.   Participants will learn how school and family dynamics affect a child or adolescent who may be experiencing emerging signs or symptoms of a mental health or behavioral health condition.

Texans Recovering Together

Texans Recovering Together is a program funded through FEMA aimed at assisting all survivors of Hurricane Harvey.  TRT can provide valuable resources and crisis counseling throughout Harris County free of charge.  Come hear about the program and learn more about how TRT can help families.
