My husband and I have 2 daughters, one is entering 4th grade!  Also, we have a very rambunctious Boston Terrier named Chloe.

What's Going on in Class...?

Math:  We are moving into 3-digit addition and subtraction.  We will be assessing their understanding before we get out for Spring Break with a daily grade.

Science:  We are moving into Objects in the Sky.  Students need to know how shadows are created and changed depending on the time of day/season.  They need to know the location of the sunrise and sunset.  Also, how the Earth rotates on its axis.  Also, they need to know that stars form patterns in the sky and the moon has different phases.  Here are the essential questions we will be going over:

How would your everyday activities change if there were no day and night?

How does the moon appear to change over a month’s time?

What kinds of patterns can you notice in the day or night sky?

Reading:  We are beginning a study on informational text/biography of Helen Keller.  We will be studying her contributions to society and looking at important moments in her life (timeline).  We will also incorporate writing to retell how she persevered despite her disabilities.

Run Wild/Field Day Information

Way to go Wildcats! Those Run Wild donations are really rolling in!

In honor of Presidents’ Day, and our long holiday weekend – we thought it would be fun to have a little Run Wild Challenge!  We are calling this the 50 states challenge!  Let’s see if our school can get donations from each of the 50 United States!  Right now we have donations from 14 states – California, Colorado, Florida, Illinois, Kansas, Louisiana, Mississippi, Missouri, New Jersey, North Carolina, Ohio, Tennesse, Texas, and Utah!  Reach out to your friends and family far and wide, and ask them to support you in your fun run – even a $1 donation will get their state on the board.  The student that brings in the most money, from the most states by Tuesday, Feb. 17, will win a FREE RUN WILD T-SHIRT! (If the winner has already purchased a t-shirt, $10 will be added to their classroom total!)

New Concepts

Dear Families,

Our class is now studying 2-digit addition and subtraction with regrouping in Math using standard algorithm.  Learning strategies to problem solve using a number line, part/part whole, and drawing models.  We have been using manipulatives to recognize the relationship with regrouping when we have more than ten ones.  Also with subtraction, when the ones are smaller on top, having to trade in a tens rod to give more "power" to the ones place so they have enough to "take away".  Please reinforce these concepts at home.

In science, we are moving on to Weather and Seasons.  We need to know how weather impacts our daily life, how weather is differs in different locations are the world, and how weather forecasting is important.

Thanks!!!

Holiday Party Link and Information

Hi Everyone!

Let's make the holiday party a wonderful success by contributing the following items for Mrs. Neelley's class.

Please sign up using this sign-up:

https://www.signupgenius.com/go/4090a49acac28a1f85-holiday

Please turn in items, labeled with your teacher's name, to the front office by Dec. 13th.

This year the format for the party will be different than in previous years. The party will take place during their specials time instead of at the end of the day.  During this time,  kids will participate in 4 activities set up by the school.  These activities will be done in 15 minute rotations through the gym, art class, their classroom and music.  The PTO and the school have put together the schedule and they will send more information about this party.

Look out for 2 different sign-up genius. This one is to provide the items for the classroom that will be  used during the activities.   The other one sent by the PTO will allow you to volunteer for the different stations.   Please volunteer if you would like to spend some time with your child during this activity.  The parents that volunteer will be assigned to one of the locations above and will see their child when the kids rotate at that location.

Thanks!
