Welcome to the 2017-2018 school year! I am so excited to get to know both
you and your child.

Since I will spend so much time with your child, I thought I would share a
little about me. I was born in Iowa, but eventually found my way to the San
Francisco Bay Area with my family where I attended high school and college.
I graduated from the University of Southern California (USC) and am certified
to work with English as Second Language students and Gifted and Talented students.

My husband and I have two children, Sanna is in 10th grade at Tomball Memorial
and is an avid volleyball player and Ericka is starting 7th grade at WillowWood Jr. High
and can't wait to play basketball as a Wildcat!

I hope you will find this website helpful and informative. I am always
looking for suggestions so if you would like to see something added, please
let me know. You can email me directly from the link located on the home
page.

I hope to make this a great year for all of us. If you have any questions or
concerns, please don't hesitate to contact me.

District Reading Levels

Parents,

The district reading expectation from the 2nd nine weeks to the 3rd nine weeks are as follows:

Second Nine Weeks

Exceeds Expectations:   K                 (100%)

Meets Expectations:      J                   (90%)

Approaches Expectations:  I              (75%)

Below Expectations:   H and below    (60%)

Third Nine Weeks

Exceeds Expectations:   L                  (100%)

Meets Expectations:      K                   (90%)

Approaches Expectations:  J               (75%)

Below Expectations:   I and below       (60%)

As of right now, the grades that have been entered into the grade book reflect your child's independent reading level in December.  However, as the nine week progresses your child will be continuously assessed and the grade will be adjusted accordingly.  Keep in mind the end goal for this nine weeks to be meeting district expectations is a K.

Update on Specials Schedule

Willow Creek Parents,

The Specials Teachers wanted to inform you of a schedule change that has been made during your child’s PE, ART, and MUSIC classes.  The reason for this change was to reduce the large class size in PE.  Your child was assigned a COLOR and they will follow that schedule weekly for Specials.  All classes are mixed so your child will not be traveling with their homeroom class during their Specials time.  This will give your child a chance to interact with other friends in their grade.  Please ask your child what their COLOR is for Specials and take note of their schedule below.  Remind your child to wear tennis shoes on their PE and Music days!  If you have any questions with this new schedule, please email the PE, Music and Art teachers.

Sincerely,

The Specials Team

WELCOME BACK!

Welcome to the 2017-2018 school year!!! I am so excited for this school year and look forward to meeting you!

I want to welcome you to our class website, this is designed so that you can have information at your fingertips! As you explore our site, you can find our daily schedule, read about upcoming events, the learning that is taking place, and visit some really cool links. Please take a minute to subscribe by clicking on the link to the right so you can receive updates on what's happening in our classroom.  You can email me directly from this website by clicking on the email link on the home page. Please add this to your favorites so it will be at your fingertips!

Boxtops:

I hope you have been saving those boxtops this summer. Keep them in a baggie so we can get them to Librarian once she's ready to collect them.

Reading:

I encourage you to read with your child each night for 15-20 minutes. This will help build comprehension and fluency which will carry on in to all subjects. Each child should have one AR book on their reading level and be ready to take an AR Test by Friday.

Headphones:

This year our class will be using our laptops in the classroom! Please send in headphones in a ziplock baggie and put your child's name on the baggie.

I look forward to a great year!

Thank you,

Mrs. Apolskis
